Synopsis: Barrow, a town in Alaska is enduring a month of night when a band of vampires descend to the town and started chowing on the residents. The sherrif, Eben Oleson (Josh Hartnett) gathers the survivors and try to stay alive until the sun rises again.
What I think: I’m a big fan of horror movies, especially when they have vampires in it, so this was a must watch for me. The magazines said that it was a gore-fest but personally, I would have preferred it if there was more gore, more close ups of the neck biting, blood spurting, killing scenes. I wouldn’t deny that the movie did provide with some shocks that made me jump in my seat and there was a lot of blood, but I want more of that. Blood thirsty much?
I didn’t know that the movie was based on a graphic novel until this morning, so I can’t really say how true to the original the movie was. Anyway, the movie wasn’t bad. Yes, it could have used much more gallons of blood but I thought that the story line was good. How far would you go to survive, to help and save the ones you love? These are the questions that were asked at the end of the movie. The ending made me want to cry. Sigh…
I liked that there weren’t any boob shots since it was too cold to have people prancing around topless. There was no sex, which is even better since it doesn’t distract you from the main story. Most of the action is a little hard to keep up since the screen was to wide for my eyes to absorb everything, so that means I’ll be watching this again when it comes out on DVD. Also, I might just get the graphic novels to see what the original story is about.
P/S: I ate so much popcorn that I think I’m going to be sick.
