Oh Look, Krill!

Oh don't worry. Whales don't eat clownfish, they eat krill.

The Reason Behind My Online Handle

Sometime last weekend, during the Potter Party, the following conversation occurred.

Me: Mints? *opens a can of mint candy and passes it around*

Raven: How come you always seem to have mints on you?

Dude: *looks like he just had an epiphany* So that’s why you’re called Mintea!

I’ve been asked multiple times, why does my online handle sound a lot like mint tea or minty?

The simple reason, is that I like mints.

I’ve always liked mints. It’s the only kind of candy that I would eat.

When I started out this blog after abandoning my livejournal, I wanted a fresh start. This included a new online handle.

It was difficult to decided what to call myself and then I thought, screw it. I’ll just pick what I like, like mints and tea. So… Mintea!

And so, that name stuck. It’s been five years since then and I’m not looking to changing it again.

So that’s my story.

Back To The Radio

With the slow, agonizing death of my classic iPod’s battery, I’ve been going around without a music player for a while and I’ve been missing having music with me. Dude lent me his cute little Creative Zen but at only a 2G capacity, I miss having so much music at my fingertips. The one thing that I do like about this little player is the radio function. It’s been a really long time since I’ve tuned in to a local radio station for an extended period of time.

Usually, I’d only listen to the radio when I’m in the lab, since it’s always on if someone’s in and it’s always that one particular station but recently, my colleagues had been changing the radio station quite frequently and I actually found a radio station that I actually like.

The station plays a lot of the current music. At the present moment, that’s what I’m looking for, something that doesn’t put me to sleep and keeps me bouncing while I’m doing my work. Nothing like fast pace catchy music to keep you motivated at work. The only problem with listening to the radio is that I never know the title of the song or who the artist is.

At this present moment, I’m listening to this:

Whinging, Because I Need It

These past couple of weeks have been hectic. Work basically drained so much of my energy that I barely have energy, or time, to do anything else.

The flash fiction that is due tomorrow isn’t going to get written because well, it’s due tomorrow and I haven’t even started writing yet.

Most importantly, my school stuff has been in the back burner for a while. I’ve barely scratched the surface of what I’m supposed to read on. I should at least do a rough draft of my protocol but the perfectionist in me wants the complete, perfect protocol. It feels like an albatross hanging around my neck.

On top of that, work wise, so many things that need to be done and I’ve only got 2 hands.

I really don’t feel like doing anything productive.

GAH! Seriously. I need more time and motivation to get things moving.

To make up for this whinge, here’s a clip from my favourite Buffy episode.

Where The Heck Did January Go?

Yes, yes. It’s the requisite “OMG TIME FLIES!” post. A month into the 2011 and we’ll be having our first long weekend of the year. Ain’t it fun?

In Singapore, Malaysia and where ever else that celebrates Chinese New Year, it’s this Thursday and Friday, which means that I don’t have to be at work and all the malls and 99% of the shops will be closed. So do your grocery shopping earlier if you don’t want to run out of food this weekend. You might think that it’s an exaggeration but it’s not. Well, there’s still the fast food places and Starbucks.

The month of January had some interesting weather going on. It was rainy but rather good weather in the first half of the month, that was followed but a week of intensely warm and humid days. The last few days of January was just non-stop rain. It wasn’t too bad if you’re indoors but for those who need to be out and about to prepare for the coming festivities, they weren’t too happy about it. Thankfully, there wasn’t any major flooding that was reported, so that was at least something.

For me, January was also filled with so many different activities such as the hen night, the Science Centre trip, learning about coffee and the museum trip too. It’s been fun, not having classes to go to, so I’ve been spending more time doing fun things with my friends. It makes the time fly so quickly, no?

As we go into the second month of the new year, I’m hope things will go as smoothly or even better.

The Little Things That Make Me Happy

The scent of coffee in the morning.

My mum’s cooking.

Comfort food in the form of boiled tapioca and it’s side dishes.

Good music.

Good books.

Snuggling on the beanbag and watching a movie.

Talking about food, comic books and evolution over a meal.

Cats coming to me for pettings.

Shooting things in video games.

And the following video:

The Hotness of A Man

Hot man

The hotness of a man isn’t in just the way he looks, how he carries himself and how he behaves. It’s in the little things that he does that makes him sexy, gorgeous and oh, so hot in your eyes.

It’s in the way he talks to you, making you feel like you’re his equal, taking the time to explain esoteric things that you’ve never heard before and make it exciting. When he asks you about your day and expect you to tell him about it.

It’s in the way he holds you and tells you that it’s ok, things will be fine, when you find out that your grandmother was hospitalised. Again.

It’s in the funny faces he makes when he tells a story about the cat, the little cute things that the cat does.

It’s in the way he moves; the silly dances he does when he thinks no one is looking or when he purposefully does it in public to embarrass you, even though it never works.

It’s in the way he cooks, even if it’s just using the microwave oven, preparing something that you’ve never had before and open to trying. The way he worries that it’s not good enough to serve guests even though you know it’s going to be perfectly fine.

It’s in the way he calls you during lunch to talk, just to talk and see how the day’s been going.

It’s in the way that he makes you feel so much better after a shitty day/week.

It’s in the way that he makes you laugh and the way he laughs at your lame jokes. The way you can talk about comic books or science and he’d get it.

The hottest thing, the sexiest thing in a man is his brain. Intelligence, a sense of humour and self-confidence are what makes a man hot. At least to me.

Things I need to write:

Steampunk short story
I’ve not started it at all and the submission deadline is on Halloween. I have some ideas though but the part where I need to sit down and write it out… That part isn’t seem to be happening.

Marine Conservation essay
I have papers to read for this essay and I’ve started on two of those but still, the reading is going slowly. It’s due in a week.

NaNoWriMo plottings
Nothing what so ever so far. I’m so going to fail.

Things have been hectic around here and I’ve been struggling for time and focus to do all the things I need to do for school, work and my sideline interests. I should be reading and at least taking notes from my readings but I think I’m going to do that later. Too tired to think and process right now.
