NaBloPoMo Day #17: Making Up For Tomorrow

During my recent visit to The Body Shop for the 30% off for Star Loyalty Members sale, I purchased a number of make up related items like eye shadows, eyeliners and blusher. The lady working there, who knows me by face now since I go there quite often, asked me, why doesn’t she ever see me with make up since I buy so many in the first place. I told her that in my line of work, it’s not advisable to be wearing make up but I knew that it wasn’t true. I’ve seen people who go into work with make up so thick that they look like runaways from the Chinese opera troupe.

It got me thinking, I have all this make up colours that I only use when I go out (which I must say is not as often as it used to be), they’re just going to be sitting there untouched until their expiry. This kind of sucks as I have quite a number of the colours and I love experimenting with them.

So this morning, I decided, what the heck, let’s just go ahead and wear some to work because I felt like it. I had on some eye colour (matte brown and matte cream), some eyeliner (The Body Shop black pencil liner) and some mascara. I didn’t wear too much to look like someone going for a Halloween party but just enough so people go Hmm, you look different today instead of OMG! Too much make up!. Of course all of this goes on top of my BB cream and loose powder. A swipe of lip balm and I was all set to go.

My friends never understood why I actually go to work with make up or basically powders on since we’re going to be spending a lot of time in isolated areas where you don’t really meet any hot, sexy men people. They’ve never had to battle acne since puberty so they will never understand the need to cover up even a little flaw. They have perfectly nice skin, so yeah, I don’t think they’ll ever understand, but I digress.

I realised that I don’t have that many matte colours for the understated make up look but deep down inside, I live for the shimmer palette. I have four of the shimmer cubes and I think they’re crying out to be used.

I think, I’m just going to start putting on a little eye make up for work everyday, just for the fun of it. I liken it to having bright coloured underwear. If colours make you happy, then go for it.

Maybe I should use the brown/bronze palette tomorrow, like this:

Ok, so you can’t really see it but the colour is there.

Anyway, I love make up. How about you?

Look At The Pretty Things I Got!

Recently, I ordered a new batch of sample kit from Everyday Minerals as the previous one didn’t really have a foundation that suited the colour of my skin. The new sample kit, that consisted of 3 foundation colours, Golden Medium, Medium Beige Neutral and Buttered Tan, finishing dust and a blusher, Plum Dust. Other than the sample kit, I also got two sample size concealers, Mint and Multitasking. I can’t wait to try them out some time soon. If they’re suitable, I think I’ll get the actual size and some brushes to go with it.

Oh look! Another dress! I know, I know… This is like the third dress within the last few weeks but.. but.. it was on sale! And it’s cute! Don’t you think so? I found it a little shorter than my other dresses but not too short that you can see my ass when I bend. The grandmother said that I should wear tights with it but I just can’t bring myself to do it. *shudders at the thought of wearing tights* I think it makes my skinny legs look like sticks.

Anyway, the dress is as brightly coloured as in the pictures. It’s some synthetic material that isn’t heavy and it feels somewhat comfortable. I don’t know what shoes or accessories that will go with it yet but fear not, I’ll figure it out.

Pretty, no?

Make Up And Presents

It’s usually during the few weeks leading up to Eid that I go a little make up crazy. I go out and do some make up shopping and this year, I bought quite a number of eyeshadow. Don’t ask me why. I just felt like it.

So dropped by my favourite vice station, The Bodyshop, and got me some colours. I got 2 different shimmer cubes as shown below:

I love the colours of each palette and the shimmers just make me feel girly. I was doing some research on the best combination of colours last night and I found out that these shimmer cubes can be used both dry and wet. I didn’t know that! In fact, I’ve never heard of using wet eyeshadow before this. They say that the colours are more intense when you use the eyeshadow wet, so I thought I would give it a try.

It’s not a really good picture since it was hard to take a picture with just one hand. The picture may not show how different it is between the wet and the dry application of eyeshadow but trust me, it’s different. It’s so pretty that I can’t wait to try it out tomorrow night.

I’d like to try the eyeshadow like how it’s put on in these two videos:

Cool huh?

Anyway, when I came home today, I found a big package from my sister, sitting on the table. I opened it up and found stuff for my mum, my youngest sister and I. Here’s what she got for me:

A she devil outfit, complete with cape, wig with horns and a tail. Apparently, she said that it came with a pitchfork but it couldn’t fit into the box so she didn’t didn’t send it.

Here’s a close up of the wig:

It’s supposed to be my birthday present. I guess if there was a Halloween party, you’ll know what I’ll be going as.

Anyway, thanks sis. Miss ya.

Look What I Bought

I’ve been wanting to try this for a while now. So what do you think?

Don’t I look pretty? Wahahahah!!!

Ok, so the eyebrows need some trimming, the face is a little oily and I have no makeup what so ever on my face, but the eyes! They are Teh Prettiest!

Ok, so my sister put the fake lashes on for me butbutbut, I will learn to put it on by myself. And then, I will be pretty, oh so pretty!

Vanity, Thy Name Is Expensive Torture

It’s been a while since I actually did something proactive about my egoistical need to look pretty even though no one else notices the way I look, so I decided to do a little torture pampering.

I started the day early with a session with my sister’s beautician. I have to say that it’s one of the best facial experience I’ve ever had. She had a gentle touch and she didn’t prod my skin mercilessly. In fact, she was really nice. The best part was that she didn’t charge us (my sister and I) too expensively since two of our aunts are partners in the small spa establishment. I’m actually looking forward to the next session in two weeks. (Yes, my skin is bad enough that it needs bi-weekly treatment).

Later in the day I decided to go for a haircut. Originally, I wasn’t planning to cut my hair until September as I was planning to keep it long. However, five months after my last haircut, the ends were dry and my hair was frizzy. My hair actually looks like straw. Well, actually no, I’m exaggerating but well, my hair isn’t as manageable as it used to be.

So I went in for a cut and some treatment done. In all, I spent two hours at the salon. Actually, the hair cut took all of fifteen minutes but it was the treatment that took so long. There was much waiting and I almost feel asleep from the waiting. The only things that kept me awake were the machines that they used to heat up my hair during the waiting time.

Interesting, no?

So anyway, now I look from this:

To this:

It’s not much of a difference but at least my hair doesn’t look so dry and unkempt.

Switching Facial Cleanser = Acne Breakouts. Dammit!

I switched facial cleanser recently and the breakouts that resulted from that change is horrendous. In hindsight, I guess it was really a silly thing to do to switch cleansers since the old one was working well. I switched from Deep Cleansing Seaweed Cleanser from The Body Shop to the Deep Cleansing Wash from Simple. It always takes at least 4 weeks for my skin to adapt to the new cleanser and during that time, I have hell of a lot of trouble trying to keep the breakouts at bay. The Deep Cleansing Mask from Simple may have also had some contribution to the sudden massive breakouts since you know, deep cleansing masks brings out the impurities from the skin which in turn causes acne. For me at least, not sure about other people though.

I also think that my diet lately has affected my skin. I haven’t been drinking enough good ol’ H-two-oh, just lots of tea and other caffeinated products. Too much salt, chocolates and various oily food (basically non-nutritious and healthy sustenance). I don’t think that my daily intake of one fruit a day actually helps since it’s a minute nectarine.

Anyway, I think it’s time that I actually get professional help with my skin. I don’t mean going to the doctor’s to get oral medication (even though I’ve done that before) since I don’t think it’s good to be so depended to something chemical. I mean that I should actually visit a beautician to help purge my skin. I can’t do the facial by myself. The lady that my sister goes to for her facial seems good and very affordable compared to The Body Shop one that I went to. I have an appointment in two weeks and I hope that the worst of the breakouts would have gone down by then.

I just want to have good skin. Is that so hard to ask for?
