Oh Look, Krill!

Oh don't worry. Whales don't eat clownfish, they eat krill.

Got Writing?

Less than 4 hours to go before NaNoWriMo starts in Singapore and I’m not ready. At all. Nope, not ready. This is what I’ve got so far:

  • a vague semblance of a plot. I think. I’m not sure.
  • a tentaive title which I will not state here for fear of this post ending up on a porn search engine
  • setting of the novel on a fictional island, sort of, I guess
  • a vague description of the characters, mostly the main characters that is if they don’t decide to run off with my muse and join the circus
  • that I’m sure I’m not going to be able to finish it this year either

The only thing sure of is that I’ll try my best. Keep and eye on my NaNoWriMo sidebar and see my progress, which may not be very much. All the support would be very much be welcomed.

What’s with the birds man?

Imagine enjoying your lunch when suddenly, a bird careens off course and smacks right into your arm. You could feel it’s talons scratching you and the furious beating of its wings as it tries to regain it’s balance before flying off to God knows where. This happened to me yesterday during lunch time. Totally freaked me out big time. I thought I was being attacked until I realised that the bird had really bad timing; trying to fly in front of a man who was walking past me only to realise its mistake the last minute. After that, the whole group of us were extra paranoid and would duck every single time a bird flies.

I guess the bird attack/accident during lunch actually prompted my dream last night. In it, I was sleeping soundly when I was awoken by the sound of two birds breaking into my room. can you imagine it; birds clawing they way through the window and coming into my room just to peck, bite and scratch at me when I didn’t even do anything. I just hope that today’s lunch will go better than yesterday. No more attack of the birds or something like that.

On a side note, this is also an attempt to see if posting via email works.

EDIT:So, email posting only brings it to the site and saves it as a draft instead of posting it straight…. Hmmmm……

Events of today made me realise that having a maid in the house has made me clumsy, shy, unsure of what to do and almost incompetent in the kitchen. I’ve grown so accustomed to having someone else do the chores that I’ve almost forgotten how to do them myself. My mum always said that a woman needs to know her way around the kitchen and I agree, but today was not a shining example of that.

I want to say that I was caught of guard by the flurry of activity and the quick, swift way everything was done but that would just be an excuse. It’s not like I’ve never been a kitchen helper during a function before but I guess I felt a little awkward trying to get used to a different way of doing things, though I think that might just be another excuse.

I don’t want shame my family and make everyone think that my mum did a bad job of teaching me how to be a proper woman/future life partner/wife. That would be the worst insult to anyone, ever, to say that their parents did a bad job of raising them. So, I need to suck it up and get over feeling awkward and get used to the change since if you don’t change, you just stagnate and that’s never healthy. I know that in time I will be more comfortable but in the mean time, I just have to try harder and make myself useful.

I think I’ve just lost my mind. The first thing I did when I woke up this morning was to sign up for NaBloPoMo or National Blog Posting Month. It’s like NaNoWriMo, only different. For NaBloPoMo, only a post a day on your blog is needed; no word limit, no theme, nothing. Just pure unadulterated crap/personal musings/outright lies. The main aim of it is to get your creative juices flowing and for you to write more.

I think the most swaying part of getting me sign up for it were the badges. *points to the sidebar* It’s Yoda! Have can any Star Wars fan ever resist the power of the little, green master.

So, on top of having NaNoWriMo, I’m going to be doing NaBloPoMo too. See what I mean about having lost my mind?

No Plot? No Problem!

It’s been a while since the last post. The week had been filled with activity and I’ve been going out almost every day since Monday; tiring yet fun all the same.

Today, I attended the launch of this book at the National Library. The book is a compilation of excerpts from the novels of last year’s NaNoWriMo winners. It was good to see meet up with them again, especially after getting back in contact with them on the NaNo forums.

The book launch started with an explanation of what NaNoWriMo is, followed by an excerpt reading by some of the authors in the book. I have yet to start the book but from the excerpt reading, the stories sound very interesting. I know that some of them have self-published at Lulu.com and maybe if I really like the novel, I might check if they’ve done any self-publishing and get it from them.

After the Q&A session that followed the excerpt reading, there was a quiz where we had to guess what the items in the NaNoWriMo emergency pack (which we got when we signed it for the book launch) were for. Some of the things were the same as last year’s quiz so I didn’t have that much trouble. I as very surprised when they announced that I’d won the quiz because I’ve never expected it. I received this book. I’ve been eyeing this book since last year and I’ve been wanting to get it and now I don’t have to! Hopefully this year I’ll be able to finish my novel with the book’s help.

Shopping and Cute Toddlers

While waiting for my sister, I managed to purchase the following:

I’d initially went to Kinokuniya to see if Book 2 and 3 of the Temeraire series were available, which they were. What surprised me was that the last book of the Circle Trilogy, Valley of Silence was already out. It’s supposed to be released only on Halloween as it follows the time line of the book though I’m not complaining that it’s released here more than a week before that. I can’t wait to start on it as soon as possible. How will Cian and Moira fall in love? How do they handle all the unresolved sexual tension? Do they get to defeat Lillith? Can they get back to modern-day Ireland?

At the airport after the little shopping trip, seeing my cousin again after almost a year. Her son’s grown so much and he gets cuter every time I see him. He’s so friendly, active and very inquisitive but I guess all babies are like that. Hopefully both of them will come over tomorrow so that I can spend more time with them before the rest of the family comes over.

After returning from the airport, my sisters and I went to watch Death Note. The theater was full but we managed to get seats, though not very good ones. The movie was alright though I’m not sure how it rates against the manga since I’ve never read it. I do look forward to the concluding part for the show in December. I need to know what happens to him in the end. Will he go evil? Will more people die? Him included?

Pity That Fool

I was told something really wonderful yesterday. K-Fed (aka Kevin Federline aka Mr Britney Spears) was on WWE Raw and he made such a fool of himself as shown here:

I ♥ John Cena.

Here’s one with K-Fed on CSI. I’ve alwasy loved Nick but now I’m absolutely, totally in love with him. Now, if only someone would do that in real life. 🙂
